Moby Dick Book Jackets

Book jackets designed and hand illustrated to add a modern, contemporary spin to the classic
novel. Concept focuses on the themes of the book; isolation, desperation, obsession and the limits
of knowledge. These are shown through the use of colour and mediums; illustrative cover utilises
large patches of watery looking black to portray the dark abyss that is the ocean but also the mind.
The white whale represents the flicker of hope but also the underlying demons that haunt and
torment the mind. Whereas the typographic cover represents obsession and desperation, the
name of the whale carved into the wood mimics an obsessed lover carving the name of the object
that plagues their mind into wood or a tree.
